On Your Marks, Get Set, GO!!!

Woo Hoo!!! It’s start day!!  Start day of what you ask?  Why, the 1930’s Farmer’s Wife QAL that Angie over at GnomeAngel.com is hosting.  The first Farmer’s wife quilt has been on my To-Do list for quite a few years and the announcement of this QAL pushed me over edge inspired me to start not only the 1930’s version but the 1920’s version from a few years ago.  That will be a total of 210 6 inch blocks.  I am so glad there is a FB group of support I will need it to make these finishes.  It’s definitely not too late if you want to skip over and join our little group.

And because I am a silly over achiever right now here is Bonnie and Becky in a scrap version so yeah, maybe 3 Farmer’s wife quilts out of this QAL. 

Swirly Sheep

I have had this jelly roll sitting on my shelf for longer than I like to admit.  This has occurred for 2 reasons. First, I have too much fabric but can’t seem to stop shopping for more and second because I just like to look at all the pretty colors.  Anyway, I was looking at this particular jelly roll and thought it would look perfect with swirly sheep embroidery from PurelyGates Designs and it gave me excuse (reason) to buy a new embroidery disk.   

For the quilt I simply sewed the strips together length wise.

Then measured 12 ½ inches for the right side and cut it.

Each sheep was cut into a 9 ½ inch block then sewn in a column.

Sew the row of sheep where we cut the sewn strips earlier and TA-DA one of the cutest baby quilts I have made in a long time. 

This quilt will for sale in my shop if you can’t stand to not have this cutie in your baby’s room.

Cutting Up Some Denim

I have been loving my Go! Cutter this week.  I have been hording old jeans forever and I have them stored everywhere and anywhere they will fit.  I decided this week was the week to cut some the jeans down, which is the first step to them actually becoming a quilt.  This will not be a quick project, heck, it has taken me years to get to this step.  I have decided on a faux cathedral window pattern that will also be quilt as you go so at least I won’t have to quilt this beast when it’s done. 

This is where my Go! came in handy, with my 6 inch circle die and was able to get the entire stack of jeans that was hiding in my laundry room cut down to a easily stored stack of circles in just a few hours. 

Autumn Tint Block

I know you thought I abandon my blog again but no I am here.  I got food poisoning and was in recovery mode.  I did manage to get some sewing done; not too much though.  I did the next block in the 1920’s Farmer’s Wife book.  Here is Autumn Tint block. I am sure purple, teal and grey are autumn colors somewhere

Also, being very jealous of some of the desktop design boards I decided to make one with stuff I had around here.  I took a picture frame, glued a piece of batting to the back board, removed glass and TA-DA my own table top design board. 

Farmer's Wife 1930's version

I have finally chosen my colors for the 1930’s Famer’s Wife Quilt Along!!  I went with a color group vs. a fat quarter bundle so that I could add to it over the year.  I just know I will see some beautiful fabrics over this year span and will want to add to it. I think the blues and greys will suit this quilt well and Chris said they made him think of the civil war when he saw them.

In trying to say organized I stopped at Goodwill and picked up a storage basket to hold all my QAL items.  I love Goodwill for baskets and vases people usually get rid of them and I can pick them up for almost free this one was $1. I just need to get a small storage box to keep done blocks in so they won’t fray or get lost in my sewing room.  I am set for September 28.

Farmer's Wife 1920s

Yes, I know I have ignored my blog for just short of forever but we are going to get passed that.  I have joined the 1930’s Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along, it starts September 28 so it’s not too late for you to join in.  Because I also have the 1920’s version of the Farmer’s wife I have decided to do them both. Today I am playing with the 1920’s version. I have decided on purples, greys and teals for my colors and I was able pulled this bunch from my stash but will probably add a few more to it here and there. 

I am going to go in alphabetical order for this one because that is the way they are laid out in the book.  Attic Windows was my first block and I must say I am really happy with how it turned out.  First picture is before sewing and the second is obviously after.  I need to make my self one of those mini design boards to keep on my table. 

  

Frankenstein ready for the frame

Here is Frankenstein all ready for the frame; this bad boy is huge!  I have decided to keep the scrap theme going with the thread used on the bottom or back.  I will use up all the left over bobbins of quilts of the past J  so that will make everything about this quilt scraps J  that makes me happy!  I can’t wait to get it off the frame and add my scrappy binding and put that bad boy on my bed. 

Today is Monday which means another week of cooking dinners for my tribe.  Ash Wednesday is this week so that means it’s time for Friday fish.  My girls love this but the men of the house could really do without it so I make pasta on fish nights as well.   

French dips sanny’s with fries and ice cream

Meatless spaghetti/ shrimp alfredo with a salad and tiramisu for dessert (load on those calories)

Pork tenderloin with fried noodles/rice with veggie and brownies.

Fajita’s with angel food cake with berries and cream.

Fried fish with potato pancakes and corn fritters with cupcakes of some sort

At least one night of leftovers or MIY as I like to call it.  Make It Yourself J Mom needs night off here and there.
